MindLINK® Seminar "Heavy metal intoxication, lack of micronutrients and trace elements, detoxification, food intolerances" - in German language
The environment of chronically ill patients contains numerous sources of potentially toxic and immunogenic contaminants. In addition to contaminated foods, the widely used sources of exposure includes materials used in dentistry.
When taken systemically, the chronic exposure to metal ions, metal oxides, plastic monomers and other foreign substances increases the risk of chronic inflammatory multisystem diseases even in the subtoxic region.
Studies prove e.g. an association of metal contamination with an increased risk of atherosclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, and depressive symptomatology. The underlying patho-mechanisms are based on both immunogenic and toxic effects of contaminant burden.
Here the replacement of essential trace elements by toxic metals also plays an important role: due to their chemical similarity, they compete for binding sites on transport mechanisms, enzymes and receptors. The interplay between toxic metals, essential trace elements, intestinal barrier function and detoxification mechanisms may underlie the development of chronic inflammatory multisystem diseases.
